The Schmidt coupling is a special type of mechanical coupling used to connect two shafts that are parallel but not in the same line (i.e., they have an offset). It consists of two outer discs connected by a third middle disc using links or pins. This design allows torque to be transmitted smoothly even when the shafts are laterally misaligned, without bending them. Schmidt couplings are compact and ideal for high-speed, precision applications where space is limited.
