This is a holder for a makerbot endstop switch and is supposed to reside on the 3d printing module. The top of the holder houses a makerbot endstop switch which can be hooked up to a raspberry pi running octoprint (via GPIO Pins).
THe distance between the endstop to the top of the 3d printing module is about 40mm, which should be enough time for the pause command to be sent before the filament goes in.
Also, the attachment is not bolted secured down to make it easier to change filament.
For the top cover of the endstop sensor. please print from

In Octoprint, through the use of "Filament Sensor Reloaded plugin", you can make the endstop sensor trigger a Pause from octoprint to the printer whenever the endstop switch detects "OPEN" or "CLOSE"
Helpful in cases when filament is running low and it might get stuck in the extruder if you leave it running!
