Wanhao i3 E3D Volcano Conversion

This is a drop in replacement direct drive assembly for the Wanhao i3 / Monoprice Maker Select using the E3D Volcano hotend and the stock extruder. This conversion has allowed me to run ~3x the volumetric extrusion rate of the stock hotend.

This conversion combines the things I liked about a few other designs as well as minimizing the packaging space required in order to keep as much print volume as possible. Please note that you will lose some printing volume with this conversion and will have to move your z home switch location. I also highly suggest changing the max height of your z travel in your slicer to prevent it from crashing into the upper support of the printer.

The fan shroud is designed to work with any 40mm fan, although I am using a Noctua on my setup. No provisions for a cooling fan are provided because I almost exclusively print ABS.
